Due to a combination of Dupuytren’s contracture and run-of-the-mill arthritis, I deal with achy hands on an almost daily basis. Luckily, I have a secret weapon that helps lessen those localized aches and pains whenever my hands are bothering me: my homemade arthritis pain relief cream!

Not only is it made with all-natural ingredients, but it’s effective and a cinch to make, as you’ll learn in this post! This DIY pain relief cream helps control the pain and inflammation in my hands without going overboard on over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin and other NSAIDs. It’s one of my favorite health and wellness DIYs, alongside staples like DIY heating pads and homemade ice packs.

My recipe has evolved a bit over the years, but I’m very happy with the new, more streamlined formula you’ll find in this post. This version of my DIY arthritis cream gets its powerful pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties from Restore Essential Oil Blend, which we’ll explore further in the next section.

The Best Essential Oils for Joint Pain Relief

What makes my homemade pain relief cream so effective for alleviating pain? This herbal remedy gets its therapeutic qualities from powerful essential oils found in a blend called Restore. It’s not specifically an essential oil joint pain relief blend, but it sure works well for that purpose!

Here’s a quick look at the oils that make up this blend and their major properties:

  • Wintergreen Essential Oil – Reduces pain, promotes blood circulation, and soothes irritation and soreness. Absorbs quickly into skin, for quick, targeted relief.
  • Camphor Essential Oil – Found in many common topical pain relief products, including arthritis treatments. Cooling and warming properties help lessen inflammation and swelling.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil – Used topically, peppermint can help relieve pain and swelling. A useful remedy for headaches, migraines, and other aches and pains.
  • Ylang Ylang Essential Oil – Provides relief from both physical and mental distress, and smells wonderful.
  • Helichrysum Essential Oil – Has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling and pain.
  • Blue Tansy Essential Oil – Anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, anti-viral, and anti-fungal; often used to improve headaches, back pain, and other forms of discomfort.
  • Blue Chamomile Essential Oil – Has analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties, and helps to reduce pain levels in people with conditions like arthritis and RA.
  • Osmanthus Essential Oil – Aroma can help reduce anxiety and helps ease pain, joint swelling, and stiffness.

It’s always gratifying to hear when something that works well for me also works for other people, and I’ve heard so many amazing stories from readers and customers who have used Restore Essential Oil Blend for pain relief.

One woman, Laura, was experiencing tension in her head and neck while recovering from brain cancer that wasn’t responding to even prescription painkillers. After trying Restore, she wrote, “This has been a godsend! It has definitely changed my life.

Another reviewer had a similar experience:

“I haven’t kept track of how many pills, roll-ons, creams, gels, and oils I have tried to relieve the muscle, joint, and headache pain I’ve endured over several years. I have recurring migraines, arthritis, and fibromyalgia. This essential oil blend, Restore, has immeasurably relieved pain for me. If you hurt, don’t hesitate to give this treasure a try.”

While Restore is available in a roll-on bottle format that’s pre-diluted with carrier oil, the more versatile 10 ml bottle gives you the option of using it in DIYs like my homemade pain relief cream. This cream is easy to apply to large areas affected by aches and pains, and it moisturizes skin at the same time! Here’s how you can make it at home.

How to Make a Homemade Arthritis Pain Relief Cream

Ingredients:

Directions:

Start by melting the coconut oil and beeswax together in a double boiler. (If you don’t have one at home, a heat-safe bowl perched on top of a pan of simmering water works just as well!)

Stir the oil and wax occasionally until everything is melted and well combined, then remove the oil and wax mixture from heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.

Add the essential oils to the melted mixture and stir once more, then pour it into a storage container with an airtight lid. Wait until the cream has cooled completely and set before using. (Feel free to stick it in your refrigerator to speed things up, or whip the set cream with a hand mixer to give it a lighter texture!)

How to Use Your DIY Pain Relief Cream

Apply the cream generously to the site of aches and pains from conditions like arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or everyday soreness. If it feels a bit stiff at first, don’t worry — the warmth from your skin will quickly warm the cream and make it more spreadable.

Give yourself a relaxing mini massage while applying your therapeutic joint pain cream for added relief (or better yet, recruit a helper who’s willing to do it for you!)

Looking For Relief That’s Ready To Use?

If you’re looking for a convenient pain relief option you can use on the go, Restore Essential Oil Blend is also available in a convenient Ready-To-Apply Roll-On format! The roller bottle makes it quick and easy to use as needed, no matter where your day takes you.

Restore is also available in a convenient Twist-up Balm that’s perfect for applying over larger areas. The balm is enhanced with menthol crystals for immediate cooling relief and enriched with moisturizing coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, and cocoa butter.
